What was your first job related to coffee?
In 1989, at a coffee brokerage company Coffee Trading Agency in Antwerp, Belgium
What profession did you want to be when you were a kid?
From police officer, fireman, F1 racer to airline pilot
How do you relax best after a busy day at work?
Listening to some good easy listening music, mostly jazz, with something to read
What book are you currently reading?
Sapiens, a brief history of Humankind
What type of series do you usually watch (Drama, Comedy, Sci-Fi etc.)?
Since I watched Star Wars in the movie theater back in 1977, it used to be mostly Sci-Fi but ultimately Science, Drama and Historical dramas offer more entertainment.
Do you play an instrument and if so, which?
No, unfortunately not! My parents should have been more persistent when I was young, now I lack the patience to learn from scratch.
Do you have a role model and if so, whom?
I would have to pick my dad, from whom I got righteousness and fairness. A critical thinker, who, should there be many more like him, could have contributed to make the world a better place. I also wish there were more people out there as the likes of Carl Sagan, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Richard Dawkins.
What is your preferred type of vacation (e. g. mountains, sea, city-trip)?
The perfect trip for me combines culture and nature. I would always look for a combination of relaxing (preferably) on the beach and cultural trips.
What would you do if you won one million in the lottery?
I would seriously daydream about buying a small express cruiser moored in the Mediterranean ... or perhaps a trip to the edge of space and look down to earth from a couple of 100 miles up! Most would find its way on an investment account for now …
What are you most grateful for in your life?
Being healthy and also being able to enjoy the simple things in life.
Favorite hobbies or sports?
Traveling, trekking, exercising, running, swimming. Soccer and watching snooker!
Your currently most played song on your playlist?
Last time I checked, it was “In a lifetime” by Clannad. I guess because it is on my daily late-night sleeping playlist.

Ice cold milk and even colder beer.
How do you make your coffee at home (Capsules, pads, filter, bean-to-cup coffee machine)?
Capsules for cappuccino and mocha and good old traditional filtered.
How did you first discover your passion for coffee?
A family visit and holiday in Guatemala that turned out into going to the office every day and visiting coffee farms and suppliers.
How long have you been working for NKG and in which positions?
Since 1992, starting off as a green/decaf trader at Descafecol Mercantil in Bogota and Manizales for a short period, then passing on to SKN del Tolima as assistant to the management, and in 1994 I started as trader at Coinca.
What do you like most about working with NKG/your team?
I think it is something special to be working for a family-owned company that can call itself number 1 in the business.
