THE HUMAN TOUCH

Interview with

Changsu Woo

In 2013, Changsu started his first coffee job as a manager/co-owner of a roastery coffee house called Assa Coffee in Kathmandu, Nepal. He just recently joined NKG in July this year as a COO of NKG Korea. How he discovered his passion for coffee? That is a really interesting story: “Being a missionary apprentice in Nepal, I’ve sought after a cash crop which can aid in alleviating the poverty and empowering entrepreneurial young kids in Nepal. And I found coffee to be the perfect tool for such purpose.” What an inspiring reason to enter the coffee industry! We are very happy that he now chose NKG to participate with his passion and knowledge, and that he, too, likes working with us and the teams in our Asia Hub. So, let’s get to know Changsu a bit better!

I always think that the coffee business is about people...”

How do you relax best after a busy day at work?

Hot shower and reflect on the day. Then enjoy much-needed a can of beer with my wife and hear all the stories about my 20months baby daughter Sana.

What is the most beautiful place you have ever been to?

The infinite greens and sands, and the spotless blue sky in Gobi Desert, Mongolia.

What would you do if you won one million in the lottery?

I’ve never bought a lottery ticket in my whole life, so it is a bit hard to picture myself with such money. I would be putting more than half of the money into the healthy equities, save the rest, and will commit 20% of the prize money for the offering for missionary works.

What are you most grateful for in your life?

My family’s well-being, and good health.

How do you make your coffee at home (capsules, pads, filter, bean-to-cup coffee machine)?

My goods friends in the roastery industry keep me well-fed with good coffee every season, so I would pay my respect to the nicest beans by properly brewing them with a Hario V60 dripper or a Kalita Wave dripper.

How are you right now?

What makes you laugh a lot?

Watching every move and expression my 20 month old daughter Sana makes, and the smiles from my wife.

What would you try if you know you can only succeed?

I would like to be a good follower in Christ.

What is the most important thing to do on your bucket list and why?

I really want to travel to Japan and stay a week in a nice remote onsen(hot springs) village with my family. My wife and I really enjoy travelling to nice onsens, and it would be wonderful to take our baby daughter with us next time.

Mail from NG Comms: A personal update

Dear NKG people,
How are you right now, as we are approaching the end of this year? After the last quite intense years, we were probably all hoping for a calmer one – which we unfortunately did not get. All this bad news and struggles can feel a bit overwhelming at times. We hope that you made it through this year as best as you can, and that you are content with where you are right now and with what you have achieved! We have to say we really are. In the context of so many crises, it is not always easy to find the right words, which (obviously) is what we are trying to do in our daily business at NG Comms. Thus, we are very happy with what we have accomplished, and instead of resuming what was going on in the world (and of course affecting us at NKG as well), we would like to focus on the good news to end this year with.
