Uniting all internal communication activities under one roof

Internal communication is about working together: the group, the companies and you – each and every one of our employees at NKG. It can make our life a lot easier, enable us to exchange ideas and knowledge, share best practices, reduce mistakes and provide support. This is especially important when it comes to the huge amount of input we are confronted with every day: there is so much information coming from everywhere – e-mails, newsletter, news on the intranet and so on – it can really feel overwhelming. On the other hand, we all have little resources to deal with all the input, be it because of all the work load we already carry or time limitations. Thus, there clearly was the need to clean out our internal communication channels and revise our strategy. To provide a clear structure for our internal tools, the information flow and the organization of content. To make it easy for you to stay up-to-date. And to enable collaboration even when time is scarce. So, this is exactly what we did.

The goals for this process:

It's your turn

Everyone who read the focus article already knows by now: We want you to be engaged and committed to our global NKG community! And we need you and all your personal strengths, ideas and dedication to be a successful group. We would like to hear your opinion on this: How do you feel about this “being one”? Are we already quite well connected, or do we have a lot more room for improvement?

The roof to cover all of our Internal Communication activities is now called INSIDE NKG: the place for you to participate and find everything you need to know! It’s about orientation, inspiration, and exchange. Now, let us have a closer look at all the channels to give you an overview of everything going on inside of our group. An avatar guides you through the video:

Your entry point for all content

The HUB is our intranet on Sharepoint and essentially the place for you to start – regardless of what you are looking for. There is a homepage showing you a lot of the content available: templates, guidelines, archives of the magazine and the newsletter, directories, reports … you name it: everything we have inside NKG.

People, stories, and backgrounds

This is our favorite magazine, formerly known as NKG Connected! The MAG will still be about getting to know each other better, diving deeper into topics and also about sharing fun stuff! What’s new about it besides the name? There will be more possibilities to interact with us or your colleagues, we will focus even more on personal stories and insights and the fun part will also grow – you would not want to miss this! And it is as easy as that: To notice any of the issues published twice a year, we will (still) let you know via e-mail when to watch out for a new MAG. You would love to have a look at the older issues? That’s great, we have all of them covered in the archive on the HUB!

Updates in your mailbox

We will inform you every 6 to 8 weeks about the latest and most important updates– they will come straight into your mailbox. If you missed any of it – don’t worry and check out the HUB to read through the last Newsletters.

Quick news in Workday

We have even more: the short news in Workday is your way to stay in the loop as a commercial employee! You don’t work at a desk and a computer or laptop? No problem. You’ll get the most important news from now on, too! In our global HR tool Workday, we will post information in a nutshell that you should know about and can access from your private devices.

It seems to be too much to read? The bell symbol marks all the must reads in the different channels for you.

One example of constant improvement:

Each of the channels has its’ own specific options regarding different languages. While we are able to offer the MAG in four languages, there is the possibility to choose your language integrated in the NEWS. Also, the HUB can be at least translated through Google in the Browser. For Workday, we are currently discussing the best solution for translations.

This is it, INSIDE NKG. Above all, it is about you – and enabling us all to be part of an engaged community! What it also is: an ongoing process. We will constantly develop our internal communication and find even more ways to make it as easy for all of us as possible.

If you see any needed improvement, have any questions or ideas: please do not hesitate to reach out to us at inside@nkg.coffee. It is our new e-mail address for everything with regards to internal communication. Make sure to watch out for the e-mails with this sender in your mailbox– we promise to only send you the important or fun stuff.

Interview with Hellen Akumu Opuko

It was her first coffee-related job when Hellen Akumu Opuko joined NKG in July 2022 as Regional Head of HR East Africa. Through this job, she realized the value of coffee. Although Hellen did not even know what a coffee lab looked like when starting her career at NKG, she now has even more interest in coffee and also coffee farming: for the few coffee bushes her husband has (Bungoma and Turbo, Kenya), she is the expert now regarding pruning, applying fertilizer and picking the best cherries during harvesting!
