Time to take action

The political stability and calm in Germany have always provided Neumann Gruppe, and thus also NKG, with the right framework conditions to operate our business solid and reliable in the past and also created a peaceful personal and family environment for many employees. However, as the Covid-19 pandemic progressed, voices in politics and society became ever louder, aiming to shake up this stability, to break the social consensus and use populism and lies to turn people against each other. Unfortunately, anti-democratic forces are present, loud and active in a way that many of us (perhaps naively) could not and would not have imagined years ago.

Throughout the history of trade, the industry has largely stayed out of politics, religious, social and cultural conflicts, and concentrated on being righteous in its markets and countries and looking after its employees and its business. This was reasonable and sufficient under the given circumstances.

Now, we are at a point in Germany where it is time to stand up for something that has given us so much: our democracy. The extent to which we do this personally is up to each and every one of us. For the company, however, it is true that in future it will bear more responsibility than ”just” earning money.

In January, the shareholder of Neumann Gruppe made EUR 100,000 available to the members of the NG management in addition to the current donations and benefits to support democracy-promoting, practical and educational campaigns and organizations in and for Germany.

This offer was received with a lot of approval, and after great suggestions and an internal vote, NG made a donation to the following organizations:

Kompetenznetzwerk Demokratiebildung im Jugendalter

(KNWDJ, Competence Network for Democracy Education in Adolescence)

NETTZ – Vernetzungsstelle gegen Hate Speech

(NETTZ - Networking Center against Hate Speech)

Netzwerk für Demokratie und Courage

(NDC: Network for Democracy and Courage)

Demokratie verteidigen / Effektiv spenden, Spendenfonds

(Defending democracy / Donate effectively, donation fund)

The KNWDJ strengthens school and extracurricular practice in the implementation of cooperative and participatory democracy education, promotes the expansion and perpetuation of cooperation in the field of democracy education between school and extracurricular actors and develops quality standards for democracy education and strengthen a timely handling of anti-democratic incidents in schools and in the school environment. (10,000 Euro)

The NETTZ website is a place where initiatives and activists from the digital civil courage community can be found. They are all committed to a constructive, non-discriminatory culture of discourse. As a networking center, "Das NETTZ" sustainably improves the framework conditions for engagement against hate online and works closely with civil society organizations, political bodies and IT companies to this end. (10,000 Euro)

The NDC is active in 13 federal states, as well as in France and Austria. It thrives on the commitment of many young people who are committed to promoting democracy and opposing inhumane thinking. The NDC offers a wide range of project days for children, young people and young adults as well as further training and advisory formats for employees and committed individuals from educational institutions, clubs, associations and companies. (40,000 Euro)

With the "Defending democracy" donation fund, "Effektiv Spenden" supports organizations and initiatives that it considers particularly suitable for promoting the resilience and effectiveness of democracy. The focus is initially exclusively on Germany and on measures or organizations that are suitable for strengthening German democracy in the short term. (40,000 Euro)

The organizations appreciate the support and will keep the Board of Management up to date on how the donations are used. We hope that we will be able to report on the exact use in the INSIDE NKG MAG in due course.
