THE HUMAN TOUCH

Interview with

Thuy Pham

Thuy Pham’s first job related to coffee was as a coffee trader at NKG Rep. Office Vietnam (in charge of Rothfos Corporation account). She discovered her passion for coffee when she was able to learn more about the coffee supply chain and the story behind every good cup of coffee – which is all about the hard and good work of the coffee farmers, the collectors, processors, traders, logistic people, roasters, distributors … Starting as a coffee trader, Thuy works at NKG for 26 years. After becoming deputy director, her current position is now Chief Representative of NKG Rep. Office in Vietnam. What she likes most about her work at NKG is the working atmosphere at NKG and her office, where they have “a very good team with dedicated, hardworking but sympathetic people”, as Thuy says. “For us, going to work like going to our second home, we can work with our enthusiasm but without feeling pressure”, she adds. How does she answer our questions? Find out in the following!

“For us, going to work is like going to our second home.”

How do you relax best after a busy day at work?
After a busy working day, I prefer to be with my family or meet my friends. We can cook, have dinner and share a good time together.
What is the most beautiful place you have ever been to?

The most beautiful places I have been to are in my country (Sapa, Halong bay, Son Tra peninsular …). To me, the most beautiful place is where I can share good moments together with my loved ones.

What would you do if you won one million in the lottery?

In my country, there are many street lottery ticket sellers, most of them are poor people. Sometimes, I buy a lottery ticket and give it back to the seller without looking at the number/result, so if I won that lottery the one million would be my gift to the lottery seller.

What are you most grateful for in your life?

The thing I am most grateful for in my life is health and happiness of my loved ones.

How do you make your coffee at home (capsules, pads, filter, bean-to-cup coffee machine)?
I make my coffee by filter, and it is the traditional way in my country.
What makes you laugh a lot?

Sharing a good time/chatting with my colleagues, my friends could make me laugh a lot.

What would you try if you know you can only succeed?

I would try to do some cooking if I know I can only succeed.

What is the most important thing to do on your bucket list and why?

Spending more time with family, discovering hidden/beautiful places would be the things on my bucket list. However, the most important thing to me, is making my loved ones always smile and proud whenever they think of me.

Interview with Changsu Woo

In 2013, Changsu started his first coffee job as a manager/co-owner of a roastery coffee house called Assa Coffee in Kathmandu, Nepal. He just recently joined NKG in July this year as a COO of NKG Korea. How he discovered his passion for coffee? That is a really interesting story: “Being a missionary apprentice in Nepal, I’ve sought after a cash crop which can aid in alleviating the poverty and empowering entrepreneurial young kids in Nepal. And I found coffee to be the perfect tool for such purpose.” What an inspiring reason to enter the coffee industry! We are very happy that he now chose NKG to participate with his passion and knowledge, and that he, too, likes working with us and the teams in our Asia Hub. So, let’s get to know Changsu a bit better!

Mail from NG Comms: A personal update

Dear NKG people,
How are you right now, as we are approaching the end of this year? After the last quite intense years, we were probably all hoping for a calmer one – which we unfortunately did not get. All this bad news and struggles can feel a bit overwhelming at times. We hope that you made it through this year as best as you can, and that you are content with where you are right now and with what you have achieved! We have to say we really are. In the context of so many crises, it is not always easy to find the right words, which (obviously) is what we are trying to do in our daily business at NG Comms. Thus, we are very happy with what we have accomplished, and instead of resuming what was going on in the world (and of course affecting us at NKG as well), we would like to focus on the good news to end this year with.
