Issue#38 – INSIDE NKG | MAG

editorial

Dear friends and colleagues,

In this issue of NKG Connected, we want to have a closer look at upcoming opportunities and how we deal with them. Opportunities bundle, but how do we detect them and what does it take to successfully introduce them for a competitive advantage of NKG? For this purpose, we will have a look at our progress in the most dynamic growth area of coffee consumption: Asia. Even the best strategy fails if it lacks proper implementation, therefore we will show and review the group’s development in this region as an important example.

After years of virtual meetings, we were finally able to gather in Hamburg for the Be-Together in person. It was a highlight of the year to meet and be able to exchange views on the developments of the group with the colleagues from around the globe. From the moment of arrival there was a feeling of convivial togetherness. We heard from the Board of Management the strategy and business update on what I consider to be one of the most complex world and coffee market environment for decades. The political as well as the economic environment coupled with the consequences of last year’s coffee supply difficulties makes this year stand out as quite unique in coffee history. The uncertainty surrounding our activities made risk management stand out as the key priority on all endeavours. And yet, NKG was able to continue adapting its business and organizational structure to solidify its presence in the world markets.

And we celebrated even more: Maren Uzarek joined the Board of Management on October 1st,. Congratulations to this achievement! As the Director Group HR, she will introduce us to her work and focus of the new position.

As the year comes to an end, we wish to thank all of you for your continuous commitment and dedication to NKG. May the coming year bring us a more peaceful and constructive environment which may permit to display further all the strengths which NKG can supply to the global coffee community.

We wish you a happy and restful holiday season and welcome you back next year in high spirits!

Pablo Garcia C.

CLose-Up

In our focus article, we talk about implementing our business strategy. It is quite easy to see the current challenges the coffee market has to deal with, as we are confronted with many struggles on a daily basis. But to also see and seize the opportunities in them, we have to communicate, discuss and exchange ideas and support each other. And where is it easier to connect and work together than at the Be Together in Hamburg?
Many of you have probably heard or read about it by now on one of our communication channels: Maren Uzarek joined NKG’s Board of Management on October 1st! This is not only great news because she is an absolute Human Resources expert with outstanding skills but also because of her way of thinking beyond HR topics.

At the end of this year it is time for a farewell. Our Group COO Pablo Garcia C. retires after 40 years at NKG! What an accomplishment, what a commitment, and how much NKG history! Since a usual tribute cannot do him and his work justice anyway, we decided to ask a couple of colleagues from around the globe for a few words and wishes on his farewell. We are very honored to be allowed to share their personal words here.

OUT OF THE BOX

The past few years have forced not only us at NKG to make changes and adjustments; e.g., the pandemic, climate change, supply chain disruptions, and the war against Ukraine. However, these changes originated from the outside. In this article we focus on changes that we initiate by ourselves, with which we pursue certain goals. Since change processes are currently omnipresent in our group we ask our 3×3 questions to three experts about their view on “change” to find out which important aspects and learnings they can share with us.

the human touch

This time we have something special in our “NKG Integrity Champion” section. At Berindo Jaya, after nominating several colleagues for the title and taking an internal vote to decide, in the end there was still a tie. Therefore, this issue of NKG Connected presents you not one NKG Integrity Champion, but three! We congratulate Carolina Lim, Agus Budi Cahya, and Sigit Setiawan on the well-deserved title!

get connected

This time we want to celebrate our new company NKG Korea in our “Get Connected Quiz”. Korea is a super interesting country and regularly provides amazing facts. Now the question is: How well do you know Korea? Which statements about Korea are true or false? Join us for our “Facts about Korea”-Quiz! This time, too, the prize will of course fit the topic…

LAST NKG CONNECTED ISSUE

In our previous issue, we had prepared further exciting topics for you: how we updated our brand values and developed our new brand manifesto, three experts answer three questions on the global impacts of the Ukraine conflict, the three NKG PACE partners started their great work at our NGUS companies and many more.
